Melbourne singer-songwriter Kurt Gentle has been busy releasing a few blues-rock tracks in recent months: “Fingers” and “State County Lines”.

Musician who has been performing for the past ten years (his travels include the United States, Canada and China), after having built a home studio during the various periods of confinement, Kurt continues to write and record songs. which oscillate between acoustic folk and retro blues rock.

“Fingers” is a wild ride, some of Kurt’s influences (Jack White, Gary Clark Jr. and The Black Keys) ooze crisp riffs with a vocal delivery reminiscent of Josh Homme.

‘State County Lines’ was born from the same river of muddy blues as ‘Fingers’, The Black Keys sounds much louder on SCL as Kurt’s voice transports you to America’s Deep South.

The early 2021 single “Brightest Stars” shows Kurt’s ability to turn things around, embracing the winding rhythm of country roots inflicted by Americana.

With a resume that includes appearances at the Australian Blues Festival, Queenscliff Music Festival, Apollo Bay Music Festival, Echuca Blues Festival, and Healesville Music Festival, if you dig raw, authentic blues with a twist sizzling electric guitar, then you better bookmark Kurt Gentle.

Who is Kurt Gentle … I’m not that special, but I’m a singer-songwriter from Melbourne. I’m all about a great riff and an addicting melody. I have been writing and giving concerts since 2011, and have traveled a bit from Australia to the United States, Canada and China.

I have the feeling that… I am not too sure. My music is a messy mix of retro blues rock with acoustic folk roots. Some of my influences are Jack White, Gary Clark Jr., The Black Keys, and old school folk songwriters like Jim Croce, Paul Simon, and James Taylor.

My first gig was … I don’t remember my first real concert. Probably one of the many live music pubs in Melbourne. But my first time live was at a local open mic in Healesville. No one knew I was writing songs or singing, and I just got up and played four of my newly-written songs and it all started from there.

When did you choose the name of the band, and was it a unanimous decision … It was a unanimous decision between my parents because it is my birth name.

In the studio, I’m used to … Bring a liter of French pressed coffee and hope for the best.

If I could tour with someone … Hmmm maybe Paul Kelly. I don’t know why exactly, he’s just a living legend.

Social networks are … Long.

My favorite app right now is … One of the food delivery apps. Deliveroo offers great shipping rates if you didn’t know.

My most embarrassing moment to date has been the weather … Musically – well, there are a few old songs that bother me terribly.

Or there was the time when I had my harmonica choker stuck in my long hair on stage at a solo concert and couldn’t get it out for a good ten minutes or so. It might not sound like anything, but ten minutes is a long time to be on stage silently trying to pull a wire frame out of your hair.

Life on the road can be … The best time and the best time.

If you have me on your bill, all I’m asking is that the jumper contain … Potatoes.

The scariest scenario I found myself in was … On a very small boat in Indonesia crossing a strait and the waves were dominating on all sides, the boat crashing into pieces. I spent a good hour and a half sitting on the floor between the seats with ten other silent strangers preparing for the worst.

If you had to live in a city abroad, where would you choose and why? Definitely somewhere in New Zealand. Certainly nowhere in America.

What is the chore that you hate the most? Clean this space between the refrigerator and the wall.

Do you have phobias … No phobias. Unless you count those flat hats or those scaled hats or whatever their name is. I hate these hats.

Would you ever be on a reality TV show? Nope.

If you could prank any of your friends, who is your target and how do you shoot them? Umm maybe one of my sisters. . . it would be something realistic and horrible, and potentially crossing a line.

The best local takeout joint for a midnight meal that will leave you in an eating coma? Burgers. Burgers are food any time of the day.
