Virtual Gala to Celebrate 5th Anniversary of Birthright AFRICA, a collaboration between the Sudano-American educational innovator Walla Elcheikh, co-founder and CEO and world leader in education Diallo Shabazz, co-founder, which works with partners to provide free educational trips to Africa for youth and young adults of African descent between the ages of 13 and 30 to explore their cultural roots and legacy of innovation in the United States and Africa as a birthright for free.
The birthright AFRICA The gala will be virtual with in-person surveillance evenings in Brooklyn, New York State at the Tastemakers Africa House with a live simulcast at the Republic Bar and Lounge at Accra, Ghana. The hybrid gala will include: live musical performances by Jidenna and singer Carmen Rodgers from New York; video performance of Ray hodge and Dwana Smallwood Performing Arts Center, and special thanks from the actor / model Boris Kodjoe; NYC Watch night festivities include cocktails served by Outlet and cultivated and Bed-vyne as well as a culinary variety of African dishes by Teranga and ring by Nana Kwabena.
The inaugural benefit will honor three dynamic change actors who are building the bridge for the African diaspora community to connect to the continent, including: the Director of Marketing for NetFlix and co-founder of Full circle festival Bozoma Saint-Jean; African descent Co-founder & President Dr. Gina Paige and African Diaspora Development Institute President and Founder HE Ambassador Dr Arikana Chihombori-Quao.
In October, will also launch the Birthright AFRICA nationwide outreach for the first time to select 12 young people of African descent to join Jidenna for the first cohort of Birthright Fellows to return to Ghana since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic..2019 has been titled The Year of return with hopes for the 2020 kick-off Beyond the return but was pre-empted due to the pandemic. December 2021 /January 2022 The Birthright Scholar cohort will experience “The Return of the Home” as they embark on the life-changing impact of returning to the homeland and have the special opportunity to connect and reflect on the journey with Jidenna, who recently joined the Birthright Board of Directors AFRICA.
